Healthcare Experience
Odaysia Burton-Garland, RN, BSN, MSN (in progress) is a dedicated registered nurse, educator, and entrepreneur with a strong commitment to emergency care training and community upliftment. With more than 15 years of clinical experience — particularly in critical care and emergency medicine — she brings real-world medical expertise into her work as a healthcare trainer and community advocate.
She is the CEO and Founder of Pulse Career Solutions, a healthcare training company she launched in 2022 to expand access to essential certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), CPR, phlebotomy, EKG, and other allied health courses. Her programs are designed to be accessible, affordable, and impactful, particularly for individuals from underrepresented and economically disadvantaged communities who may otherwise lack opportunities to enter healthcare professions.
In her role with Pulse Career Solutions, Burton-Garland leverages her emergency medicine background to deliver practical, hands-on training that prepares students not only for certification tests but also for real clinical and emergency scenarios. Her instruction emphasizes the life-saving importance of CPR, AED use, and foundational emergency response skills.
She also serves on the American Heart Association Eastern States Emergency Cardiovascular Care Subcommittee, where she helps advance CPR education and cardiovascular health awareness across communities. Through these efforts, she promotes preventive care and heart health education, aiming to equip laypeople and future health professionals alike with vital skills for saving lives.
Beyond training, Burton-Garland’s work is deeply community-oriented. She is committed to diversifying the healthcare workforce, addressing educational and career barriers, and supporting students through mentorship and practical support — from job placement guidance to individualized coaching — reflecting her belief that education and opportunity should be inclusive and equitable.
Currently continuing her own graduate studies (Master’s degree) alongside her clinical and entrepreneurial roles, Odaysia Burton-Garland remains a passionate advocate for health education, emergency preparedness training, and community empowerment.
Heart Health
I am committed to advocating for healthcare education, focusing on preventive measures to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. By promoting education and awareness, I strive to empower individuals and organizations to make informed choices that foster long-term heart health and wellness. I am a Ambassador for The Live to the Beat campaign which is led by the CDC Foundation as part of its Million Hearts® Alliance, a public-private coalition to help fuel the Million Hearts® Initiative toward its goal of preventing one million heart attacks, strokes and other cardiovascular events by 2027. The campaign aims to reduce cardiovascular disease risk among Black adults ages 35–54 with a focus on primary prevention, including moving more, eating better, quitting smoking and addressing key risk factors like hypertension, high cholesterol and high blood sugar.
